The Nature Inn at Bald Eagle State Park

Awarded LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and named on the “Best Eco-Friendly Hotel” list by USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice for 2021.

Located in Howard, Pennsylvania, the Nature Inn at Bald Eagle State Park merges modern design and nature like no other. Working with Civil and Environmental Consultants, Inc. and SMP Architects, LLI Engineering provided HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, electrical, fire detection design, exterior building and site lighting, and implemented the LEED Certification process. The facility has geo-thermal heating and cooling, and a vast rainwater collection system used for all non-potable applications.

“The green design is groundbreaking,” Michelle Smithbauer, the park’s environmental education specialist, told The Burg. “It makes people feel better when they’re staying in a state park. It’s a less impactful way of staying in a hotel.”
